Summary

Machu Picchu is one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Every year it receives around 1.5 million people. The Inca city has approximately 150 stone buildings, including terraces, royal enclosures, minor enclosures, temples, roads and even bridges. All, or almost all of Machu Picchu (there are areas that are still under excavation) can be visited through its different tickets.

The most famous buildings in Machu Picchu are: the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Sacred Rock, the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Condor, the Mirrors of Water and more. However, there are also little-known and less visited buildings, such as the Intipunku, the Great Cavern or the Inca Bridge, one of the least explored Inca buildings on a visit to the archaeological site.

The Inca Bridge of Machu Picchu is located on the eastern edge of the Inca city. It is a large wooden log supported by a stone base on one of the mountainsides. The wooden log could be removed to prevent invasion by enemies. Or it could be placed to control the passage of people from Machu Picchu to the regions of the antisuyo, or the Amazon jungle of the Inca empire.

The Inca Bridge can only be visited with the entrance ticket ‘Machu Picchu with Inca Bridge’. This ticket, in addition to the approximately 1 kilometer walk to the Inca Bridge, allows you to do circuit 1 of Machu Picchu. This circuit is called ‘panoramic circuit’ because it allows the best panoramic view of the entire archaeological site, as well as the classic postcard photo of Machu Picchu.

The route to the Inca Bridge is short and easy. There is no need to climb difficult stone steps. It is just a 20- to 30-minute walk along flat paths but close to scary ravines. Even so, no one has fallen or had an accident on the route. The hike to the Inca Bridge is available to people over 18 years old. In addition, it is allowed for visitors from June 1 to October 15 of each year.

The company of a professional tour guide on Circuit 1 and the Inca Bridge of Machu Picchu is an excellent option. This way, the visitor will enjoy a well-informed and totally safe experience. The guide is trained in first aid. He has experience in getting the best viewpoints for panoramic photos in Machu Picchu. He is a 100% trained professional and fluent in several languages, including Quechua, the language of the Incas.

Itinerary:

The night before, the private guide will contact the visitor via WhatsApp to coordinate the visit to Machu Picchu and the Inca Bridge. If the tourist is staying in the town of Aguas Calientes, the talk will be in the lobby of their hotel. If the tourist will be leaving the city of Cusco that same day, the information will be via WhatsApp.
Tourists must have their ‘Machu Picchu with Inca Bridge’ ticket at any of its four times: 8 am, 9 am, 10 am or 11 am.
On the day of arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes, the visitor will be welcomed by the tour guide or an assistant at the exit door of the train station from Cusco. If he spent the previous night in Aguas Calientes, the guide or assistant will meet him directly at the door of his hotel.
In both cases, you must walk a few steps and wait in a short line to board one of the Consettur tourist buses (ticket not included in the service, which can be purchased on the same day), which will take the tourist to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu, after a 30-minute trip.
At the entrance to Machu Picchu, tourists will have free time to use the toilets or leave heavy objects in the cloakroom. They will then enter Machu Picchu with their private tour guide.
In Machu Picchu, the first part of the visit is uphill via several stone steps. This section lasts between 15 and 30 minutes depending on the visitor’s physical condition. Then, you arrive at the Casa del Guardian sector (circuit 1). There, the guide will provide a formal explanation of the history, construction and mysteries within Machu Picchu. In addition, the visitor will have the opportunity to get the best photographs of Machu Picchu from its best viewpoint, the Casa del Guardian.
Just a few steps away is the access gate to the Inca Bridge of Machu Picchu. Tourists will climb a few stone stairs to the checkpoint. There they will register to enter with their private tour guide. The route is short, 30 minutes on average, to a viewpoint from where there is a privileged view of the bridge (crossing is prohibited for security reasons). The guide will explain the history and importance of this tourist attraction.
On the way back, visitors will be able to take some free time to take the last photos of Machu Picchu. At the end, visitors will leave Machu Picchu.
The private tour guide will give you the best tips about restaurants in the town of Aguas Calientes. He will also tell you how to board the train back to Cusco if necessary. The service lasts 2 hours 30 minutes on average.
