Summary
Machu Picchu is one of the best tourist destinations in the world. Every year it receives around 1.5 million people. The Inca city has approximately 150 stone buildings, including terraces, royal enclosures, minor enclosures, temples, roads and even bridges. All, or almost all of Machu Picchu (there are areas that are still under excavation) can be visited through its different tickets.
The most famous buildings in Machu Picchu are: the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Sacred Rock, the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Condor, the Mirrors of Water and more. However, there are also little-known and less visited buildings, such as the Intipunku, the Great Cavern or the Inca Bridge, one of the least explored Inca buildings on a visit to the archaeological site.
The Inca Bridge of Machu Picchu is located on the eastern edge of the Inca city. It is a large wooden log supported by a stone base on one of the mountainsides. The wooden log could be removed to prevent invasion by enemies. Or it could be placed to control the passage of people from Machu Picchu to the regions of the antisuyo, or the Amazon jungle of the Inca empire.
The Inca Bridge can only be visited with the entrance ticket ‘Machu Picchu with Inca Bridge’. This ticket, in addition to the approximately 1 kilometer walk to the Inca Bridge, allows you to do circuit 1 of Machu Picchu. This circuit is called ‘panoramic circuit’ because it allows the best panoramic view of the entire archaeological site, as well as the classic postcard photo of Machu Picchu.
The route to the Inca Bridge is short and easy. There is no need to climb difficult stone steps. It is just a 20- to 30-minute walk along flat paths but close to scary ravines. Even so, no one has fallen or had an accident on the route. The hike to the Inca Bridge is available to people over 18 years old. In addition, it is allowed for visitors from June 1 to October 15 of each year.
The company of a professional tour guide on Circuit 1 and the Inca Bridge of Machu Picchu is an excellent option. This way, the visitor will enjoy a well-informed and totally safe experience. The guide is trained in first aid. He has experience in getting the best viewpoints for panoramic photos in Machu Picchu. He is a 100% trained professional and fluent in several languages, including Quechua, the language of the Incas.

The most difficult are the routes to Machu Picchu Mountain (2.5 kilometers) and to the Temple of the Moon (the Great Cavern). Both are up and down paths that take 2 hours or more, depending on the physical condition of the visitor. Then there is the route to the top of Huayna Picchu Mountain, a difficult path but with spectacular views of Machu Picchu. Another demanding route is the hike to Intipunku, the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu. Both the ‘Huayna’ and the Intipunku are ascending routes of approximately 2 kilometers. Then there are the easier hikes, those that lead to the top of Huchuy Picchu and the Inca Bridge. Both routes are only 1 kilometer and take 30 minutes or less.
